Transforming the way you see yourself one post-it note at a time
While the story from the girl with the eating disorder is touching, you may want to get rid of the pants size and weight. (Maybe just put X’s where the number should be?) It doesn’t bother me, but I know that seeing numbers like that can sometimes be triggering for people with eating disorders.
As an eating disordered girl, I can vouch for what Kiersten said. It is most definitely triggering to those who are still acting on behaviors/are early on in their recovery.
However, we must also learn to live with what people say. We cannot eradicate other people’s unhealthy choices, actions, or comments. We cannot control them, but we can control us and what we say and do. Things like that are never going to go away, (unfortunately). It is simply impossible.
Therefore, it may be beneficial to keep the numbers in to help the eating disordered population learn to deal with triggering situations. Unless we de-sensitize, it will be nearly impossible to get better.
