Running Without Ed ~ NEDA Week

by Caitlin on February 28, 2013

Today’s guest post is from Julie.  Julie runs the Operation Beautiful Twitter account.

This week is National Eating Disorder Awareness week! My organization, Running Without Ed, was created to eventually raise money for eating disorder scholarships through a 5k race, to help raise awareness of eating disorders as well as to remind yourself how important it is to live without Ed (eating disorder) and negativity!

Running without Ed isn’t just about running. Running is something that I have always loved to do, but Ed got in the way of that. Before my eating disorder, I ran for fun, and loved the strong feeling it gave me! However, throughout my eating disorder, I would use running to torture myself. Ed took my love of running away from me and I used it as a way to punish myself for what I ate or didn’t eat that day. I have recovered from my eating disorder and I want to show you that it is possible to get back the things you love! Running Without ED is about doing what you love without your eating disorder or negative thoughts stopping you. It’s about chasing your dreams and working hard to be everything that you strive to be without ED. It’s about living your life WITHOUT ED!"

I am asking everyone to please post a picture of them holding a sign that says… I RUN WITHOUT ______________. Or I _____________ WITHOUT ED! You can fill that blank in with anything you’d like! There are many prompts for this activity to make it your own! It doesn’t have to be about running or an eating disorder/negative self-thoughts either.

Here are some examples:

  • I run for (myself, my health, etc.)
  • I run without (my eating disorder, self-hate, negative thoughts, etc.)
  • I love my body because (it is strong and beautiful!)
  • I am proud of myself because (I can do anything I put my mind to!)
