Friday Notes – November 9, 2012

by Caitlin on November 9, 2012

Post-It Phrase of the Day: "This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness." – Dalai Lama

We need YOUR notes! Post a note, take a picture, and e-mail your story to Caitlin at [email protected].  Each note goes up on the site for thousands of others to read and enjoy!

Taylor wrote, “I was curled up in a chair with my eyes closed at one of the libraries at the University of Minnesota and when I opened my eyes, someone had left a note-card that read "You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. You are beautiful." Operation Beautiful was written on the back. I was having a particularly crappy day and to receive that note was awesome! Thanks for doing what you do – I love Operation Beautiful!”

Akilah wrote, “A few friends and I happened to go into the ladies’ room here at our school (Penn State) and came across these post-its all over the mirror left by anonymous! We read each one and we smiled, laughed and embraced each message on each post-it. I also decided to share the experience and Operation Beautiful with my friends on FB!”

Nakita wrote, “Every since I was a young girl as far back as elementary school I’ve always struggled with popularity, being liked and the acceptance of others. I still have some of these issues today as a college student nearing adulthood. But I am learning one thing though, liking myself is more important than what anyone thinks of me. I am BEAUTIFUL, SMART & IMPORTANT. I don’t need the world to say it for me to know it and no matter what I WILL ALWAYS MATTER TO ME!!!”

Tiffany wrote, “I wanted to share this with you. I just recently discovered Operation Beautiful. But I worked as a Resident Advisor in the Residence Halls on my college campus, and two years ago my RA partner and I covered our building with positive body talk and positive affirmations. We posted them on mirrors and all of the doors, in the laundry room, and on the walls. We had gone to a seminar on Body Image and were so excited to do this. Here’s just one of the images from that.”

Shannon wrote, “About once a month my husband, son, and I stop at a small pizza place on our way home from work.  Last time we were there I left this note in the women’s restroom.  When we stopped there yesterday I was fully prepared to leave another and was shocked to find that the note was not only still there, but that they had reinforced it with tape.  I giggled in the bathroom for a good 3 minutes J When I told my husband he said, “Obviously it was what someone needed to hear that day”.   I hope it made her smile.”

The new Operation Beautiful book is available for pre-order. Operation Beautiful: One Note at a Time is targeted to 8 – 14 year old girls and addresses topics like friendships, bullying, love, life, puberty, parents, finding a passion, and healthy living. If you’re older, check out the original Operation Beautiful book!

Two days ago I found one of the notes I put in my school’s hallway in the trash. It really got me down a bit and I almost felt like I failed but seeing my notes on the site just gives me hope that I am reaching someone out there. I won’t give up or stop posting notes because I really believe operation beautiful is a good thing and that it actually can make a difference in someones day!

I have had this happen to me too, Nakita. Often, notes are taken down because they are mistaken for trash, especially in a public place, like a restroom. But never fear! Often, people get a glimpse of the notes before they are taken down, and most are left up. 🙂
