Be in The Next Operation Beautiful Book!

Operation Beautiful is happy to announce that the site’s second book, which will focus on tween/teen issues, is currently in production!  And YOU can be in it!

Voice Over (6) Other Images (6)

We’re looking for notes and stories about the following topics.  Feel free to add your story to the submittal page below!

  • Who is the most beautiful woman you know? What has she done for you or other people that makes her so beautiful?
  • What makes you feel SUPER confident? What is your favorite thing to do in the whole world?
  • Were you ever really scared to do something but did it anyway – what happened? How did it make you feel?
  • What do you like about your body? What do you like most about your personality?
  • What don’t you like about your body? Where do you think these negative ideas came from? Have you ever compared your body to someone else’s (celebrity, model in a magazine, a friend)?
  • Have you ever heard your friends or family members talking badly about their bodies (maybe like, “I am so fat!” or “I feel so ugly!”)? Why do you think they said that? How does this make you feel? Do you ever say anything to them about it?
  • Do you like sports? Do you like recess? Why or why not?
  • Have you ever been bullied? What happened? Did you say something to a teacher or parent?  Do you think bullying is just about fighting physically? Do you think your friends giving you the silent treatment or spreading rumors online counts as bullying?
  • Do you think you’ve ever bullied someone else? Why do you think you bullied someone?
  • How are you different from other kids? Do you like being different?
  • Do you think you are popular? Do you want to be popular? Why or why not?
  • Do you wear make-up? Why or why not? Do you wish you could dress a different way?
  • Can you talk to your parents about things? Why or why not?
  • Do you ever think about or get teased about your weight?
  • Have you or a friend at school ever been on a diet? How did you feel about it?
  • Have you gotten your period or bought a bra yet? Do you want to experience puberty really badly or do you get a little nervous when you think about it?

What stories do YOU have to tell for the next Operation Beautiful book?  Please remember that we need IMAGES for the book in addition to stories. Any photographs of your Operation Beautiful notes should be taken with a camera to ensure high picture quality.     We are specifically looking for stories from 9 – 16 year olds but others are allowed to submit, too.

If you want to be in the book, please follow these important steps!

I’m so excited about this! How long are we going to have before notes are due? With Christmas coming up, it’s going to be difficult for my best friend and I to do a posting spree together so I was wondering if I should just go ahead and submit my individual notes. Thanks for this opportunity!

Sarah – the sooner you get your notes in, the better and the higher the odds are that I’ll use it in the book. Submit your individual notes and forward the link to your BFF so she can send in her notes, too! I’d love to see stuff from both of you!

What makes you feel SUPER confident? What is your favorite thing to do in the whole world?

My answer: One thing that makes me feel super confident is wearing the clothes that make me feel good. Im not into what everyone else in my school is wearing, i have my own sense of style that i try to stick to. I don’t like to wear a lot of make up, because i feel as though a women is most beautiful in their natural form. One of my favorite things to do is dance! I love dancing; it is a great way to releave stress, and its a great way to get some physical activity in everyday (or week)! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has high stress levels and someone who lacks self-confidence. Dancing is a great way to “show your own moves” and express your inner talent!

Question: Who is the most beautiful woman you know? What has she done for you or other people that makes her so beautiful?

Answer: The most beautiful woman I know is my Mom. Besides being beautiful on the outside, she is also the most special, kind and loving woman I’ve ever known. She has 4 children, but she somehow manages to take care of everyone, and let every kid know how much she loves each and every one of us. I can testify that her love is unconditional – during all these years I’ve been struggling anorexia, she was always by my side. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank her enough for everything she did and still does for me. All I can say is that my love for her has become unconditional, too. She’ll always be my role model and the most beautiful woman I know.

I feel different from the kids at my school because Im overweight and i have acne…….my bestfriend is so prety….shes skiny and doesnt have pimples…..i feel like the guy i used to like only dated girls because of how they looked. I dont feel obesity is a big problem at my school and most of the girls are sooo prety and i feel like i dont fit in with all of them. But i believe that true beauty comes from love and how u r on the inside not out and that every girl can be beautiful if they truly believe theyre beautiful

After having a New Year’s party, I found a sticky note on the wall of my powder room that was recently remodeled and did not yet have a mirror. It read, “I love that there is no mirror in here! You are beautiful and do not need a mirror to see it!!! :) operationbeautiful.com”. I knew it must have been put there by my friend, Becky Cortina, who is on the board of Girls on the Run in the NorthWest suburbs of Chicago, IL. It was the icing on the cake of what had been a great evening with friends!! It is still there and makes me smile every time I see it. Anyone that sees it comments on how much they like the note!

I was never the “pretty” girl, the “skinny” girl, or the “popular” girl…Ever since I was about 7 years old, kids would make it very well known that I was the “fat” girl or the “nerdy” girl. They teased me everday and degrated me so much until I was about 12 and I decided that I had enough. That’s when my eating disorder came into play. It ruined my life, my relationships, and my health. I couldn’t talk to anybody about it, and it was a daily strugle to just keep it a secret. Now, I am 14, and I am happy to say they I am slowly, ever so slowly getting to a place where I can see that it’s not about what other people think. We were made for a special purpose, and if we worry about our outer appearance all the time, we won’t be able to do the amzing things that we were meant to do!!!
